Crestron St. Louis | Automating a Heated Driveway

By Tony Vieira Over the last 20 years, I’ve been able to witness some of the most groundbreaking home technology projects come to life. Through our commitment to excellence and innovation, we have been able to fully transform the at-home living experience. Speaking of which, I would like to share a specific story in which this was accomplished. A few years back, we completed a home automation project for a homeowner in St. Louis County. Towards the end of the project, one of my programmers visited the site to finish up the control panel. Upon arrival, he noticed that the homeowner was having a heated driveway installed. While heated driveways are a nice luxury to have, they can hardly predict the weather forecast… or can they? After reviewing the interface of the driveway, my programmer realized it could be automated with the Crestron system in the home. The open architecture and programming language of the Crestron system allows us to automate virtually anything—including a heated driveway. The way it works is really quite simple. The Crestron system is programmed to retrieve information from the Weather Channel and turn the heated driveway on when inclement weather is predicted. This will ensure that the driveway is clear of snow and ice at all times. I am quite fond of this project for a number of reasons, but mainly because of our forward-thinking prowess. As a premier St. Louis custom integrator, we are always looking for ways in which our technology can be integrated. If you are looking to fully integrate your home, give us a call today! The Sound Room Featured in CE Pro

When venturing into a home technology project—regardless of size— it is always important to enroll the help of a custom integrator. The integrator will ensure that the project is completed properly, saving you money and maximizing the performance of the system.  Earlier this month, CE Pro, a leading electronics trade publication, highlighted a case study from our blog, showcasing the true value of a custom integrator. For those who don’t recall the assignment, let us jog your memory. Sales Manager at The Sound Room, Gary Macchi, was approached by a homeowner who was looking to add an all-weather television from SunBriteTV to his backyard patio. While performing his onsite evaluation, Gary discovered that the existing system was wired very poorly, making the addition of new items extremely challenging. To rectify the problem, Gary and his team re-racked the current system and wire-managed the low voltage components, allowing the SunBriteTV to be seamlessly installed. Below you will find a before and after picture: Even though the outdoor television could have been installed without re-racking the system, Gary didn’t feel comfortable leaving the homeowner with a subpar system. Because the system is completely re-racked and wired, the homeowner will be able to make changes in the future with little to no resistance. The project, while small in scope, really emphasizes the importance of hiring a custom integrator. By enlisting the service of a CE Pro Top 100 Integrator such as The Sound Room, the client is certain that right course of action will be taken. We would like to thank the great folks at CE Pro for featuring our project! To...
