A couple weeks ago we were on an episode of KMOV’s Great Day St. Louis. Virginia Kerr met with Jan Zajac to discuss her home automation system from The Sound Room and how much easier it makes her life as a busy mom. This gave us the inspiration to have a Ladies Technology Night to educate and talk about home automation and the benefits of brining technology into your home.

We had a great time at Ladies Technology Night and thanks to everyone who came out to join us for such a great event. In case you weren’t able to make it, here is a recap of the night!

As our guests arrived, they were greeted by Montelle Winery and were able to enjoy a glass of wine while socializing in our lounge area. Appetizers and food were provided by Villa Farotto, and our guests were able to enjoy a quiet moment of relaxation with a free massage from Massage Envy in our theater.

We held several seminars throughout the evening revolving around the ease of bringing technology into your home. First up was Streaming Music Everywhere, hosted by our  Sonos Representative. The ability to stream and listen to music from anywhere in your home with a Sonos Speaker is a major bonus. All you need is your phone and you are able to change stations or choose what to listen to, no more struggling to figure out a remote, or even worse, losing them!

2. Not at home or don’t have access to cable? No problem! You can watch the game through your desktop, gaming counsel, streaming device and more through MLB.TV. Users can choose from several different screen options and the video quality and playback is excellent. The MLB.TV subscription service is available for $109 a year for a standard, web-only access plan, or $129 a year for the premium version. The premium plan allows you to stream the games and watch on many different devices.

3. Are you a cable customer? Certain cable and satellite providers are offering MLB Extra Innings and including MLB.TV with the package for less than $200 a year. With MLB Extra Innings, you’ll have access to almost 100 out-of-market games a week, most of them available in HD. Can’t decide what game to watch? You can preview up to 8 games at once!

4. With WatchESPN, you can watch any game broadcasted on ESPN or ESPN recaps anytime, anywhere! The WatchESPN app is free and with your cable or satellite subscription, you should have full access to your favorite ESPN shows and live events. In our previous blog entry, we explored some of the benefits a fully automated security system could bring to your home. Aside from state-of-the-art security control, home automation is also perfect for controlling the thermostat in your home.

Many of our clients with Crestron home automation systems take full advantage of the HVAC control feature. Just like any other Crestron feature (security, audio-visual, lighting, shading, etc.) the thermostat in your home can be controlled from your Smartphone or tablet device.

For example, let’s say you have a vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Before you hit the road, simply login to your system through the Crestron app and adjust the temperature to your liking. This way, the home will already be the perfect temperature when you and your guests arrive.

Having the ability to control the temperature of your home at all times can greatly increase the efficiency of your home. According to Lutron Electronics, a lighting and HVAC control manufacturer, implementing a temperature control panel in your home can lower your energy bill by 16%, greatly reducing your carbon footprint.

While I am always impressed with the groundbreaking technology designs our technicians create and implement, I tend to gravitate towards projects that showcase our company values such as honesty and quality.

Recently, we were called to gentleman’s home who was looking to overhaul his home entertainment system. While evaluating the site and existing technology, we stumbled upon a startling discovery. The system was wired extremely poorly, making it very difficult to add new components.

To remain true to our mission of providing superior products and advice, we proposed a wire-manage of all the low-voltage components.

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the passing of our dear friend, Mike Smith. Mike was an amazing person, spreading joy and happiness into the lives of those he touched.

Aside from his kind spirit, Mike was also a valuable member of The Sound Room team, leaving a void that will be very difficult to fill.

We will remember a man of great integrity, kindness and commitment.

On Saturday, January 11th, there will be a visitation at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton (10151 Gravois Rd.) from 10:30AM to 2:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Some of Mike’s favorite organizations include: The Humane Society, Autism Speaks and the Alzheimer’s Association.
