THE SITUATION

Aron Zoellner always wanted a home theater but didn’t know if he would ever have the right space for it. But when he and his wife purchased a new home, they made the decision to renovate the basement and the home theater dream came back into the discussion.

A do-it-yourselfer by nature, Aron’s first thought was to try to tackle the project on his own. With a major in computer animation, a minor in sound design, and a career in computer graphics and visualization, he knew enough to consider the possibility. But realizing the volume of decisions that needed to be made he didn’t want to make one he’d regret. Aron decided that to get the home theater experience he’d always wanted, he needed the expertise of someone who helped clients make decisions like these every day. He turned to the St. Louis AV experts, The Sound Room, for help.

HOW THE SOUND ROOM HELPED

We’re firm believers that communication and planning are at the heart of every successful project. When the Zoellners approached us with their home theater design project we started with a discovery meeting to discuss the project, uncover the details that mattered for their family, and establish a budget. Electronic System Designer Jared Lange worked with the family and their contractor to design a home theater that would deliver the experience they wanted to create.

Through frequent communication about their needs and expectations, we made several revisions to the home theater along the way to ensure they were getting what they wanted from the project. The Zoellners went with a 4K Blu-ray player, 4K projector, 11-channel Atmos receivers, and an Atmos speaker system.

On installation day, thanks to proper design work and planning, everything fit into the space perfectly. The clients were so pleased with the finished product, they invited Jared over to see the new room. The Zoellner’s home theater project was the perfect example of how doing the right work up front can lead to a smooth installation day and a very satisfied client.

THE RESULTS

The project was finished in time for the Zoellners to host extended family for a showing of Disney’s Mulan when it debuted on Disney+. It was a true premier event complete with mailed invitations, movie tickets and the snacks to create the theater experience. With 3 kids under 6, the home theater room has become both a place to entertain the family and a place to unplug from the world for the Zoellner family.

Aron appreciated having a single point of contact, who was very responsive to his needs. He and Jared exchanged calls and texts throughout the project, and they still communicate today. They regularly go back and forth about movies to watch and scenes that will really show off the audio and visual dynamics of the theater.
